Helping people invest.
How to invest well is complex, even for many finance professionals. There are way too many products offered by participants who don't want to be very transparent.
There is also an economically irrational desire to be able to blame someone (other than oneself) if things don't work out (even if the initial decision was sound).
Two necessary conditions, neither of which is easy:
Getting an alignment of interest with advisors so they are on your side
Identifying competent advisors
It is still a big and open problem. The industry needs to shift from selling products to providing (dynamic, adaptive) solutions. But we are still a long way to go with few, if any, groups developing the complex systems needed to address the challenge.
